Be Discerning

Mt. 7:15-20

15 “Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes, nor figs from thistles, are they? 17 So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 So then, you will know them by their fruits.”

Despite culture’s constant efforts to hush such concerns, there is false information out there. This truth needs to be on the minds of each reader, especially as we live in an informational age. We are surrounded by droves of material. In every direction, there is some supposed theologian teaching, telling, and talking about something. TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and plenty of others, all are full of them. They are telling about some big new doctrine that Christianity has surely been ignorant of for the last few centuries!

Each person must possess a discerning attitude as we approach things that will inevitably either bring us closer to God or pull us further away. We cannot afford to run headlong willy-nilly after the next Christian fad (see Paul’s warning in Eph. 4:14). We must be deeply rooted in the revealed Word of God, exercising supreme caution and only accepting, and then defending, that which can be proved by Scripture (I Jn. 4:1-4; Ac. 17:11; I Ti. 2:15).

As you read this post, and what I hope is many more that will follow it, please do so with this attitude.
