There is only one gospel. Within the framework of salvation, the Bible story, and certainly any discussion of theology, we must hold the viewpoint of no compromise. The gospel is a singularity, just like God who orchestrated it, the Bible that reveals it, and the cross of Christ that initiates it. Paul admonished his readers to have an unfazed focus on the message of salvation.
6 I am amazed that you are so quickly deserting Him who called you by the grace of Christ, for a different gospel, 7 which is not just another account; but there are some who are disturbing you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed! 9 As we have said before, even now I say again: if anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, he is to be accursed! (Gal. 1:6-9).
While the apostles were still alive there were perverters of the message running amuck. If such is true, and this statement and many others prove it is, then it must be even more true today. How many false gospels are in the world today? How many of them will save a person from their sin? How many of them will lead a person to condemnation?
This danger has hardly lessened in the two thousand years since Paul wrote. We must be always on guard, always listening with discernment, and always checking everything we are hearing against the written word. The warning to the Galatian churches rings just as true today. It doesn’t matter if it is your preacher, one of your elders, or even someone who believes God is speaking to them, if it does not match the framework of authenticity it must be outright rejected!
Why was Paul so serious about this? Because such false gospels will lead people away from God, they will lead people away from the Word of God, and they will lead people away from the cross of Christ. This is serious! We cannot be any more lax about this now.
