I was recently having a conversation with a good brother about life and faith. He has only been a Christian for a few years, and it seems that the subject of service is still daunting to him. Those who honestly approach the Book to learn and grow still struggle to figure things out. Perhaps, it is like trying to eat an elephant. That’s okay! The longer I serve my brethren, and honestly, the longer I study God’s Word, the more I realize that I don’t know.
I quipped to my wife the other night, that I am old enough now to know that I didn’t know anything in my twenties. I know now, that I know nothing….
Back to the good brother and his good question. He commented that sometimes it is all so confusing, what about a simple approach: “How to Be A Disciple…” I will preach on the subject soon, but to bide my time, I figured I would write up a brief article in an attempt to accomplish this.
I asked for help from the girls on this… I realllyyyy liked their response. It won’t be my sermon when I preach on it, but I thought it was helpful.
What is our job?
Read the Bible.
Do what the Bible says.
Teach the Bible to others.
Want a passage for some of that?
Luke 10:25-28: And behold, a lawyer stood up and put Him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” And He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How does it read to you?” And he answered, “you shall love the lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.” And He said to him, “You have answered correctly; do this and you will live.”
Yes, reading the Bible can be complex…. That’s part of the challenge to grow through your entire life of serving King Jesus.
Yes, doing what the Bible says can be challenging. That’s part of the maturation process as you grow and develop through your whole life of serving King Jesus.
Yes, teaching others what the Bible says can be intimidating. That’s part of the growth that occurs over time, and the more you do it the more you can do it; all for King Jesus.
Yes, you can be a disciple, and even more, a good disciple.
