A commentary on Philippians is in the works. To be more clear, it is almost done… No dates to announce, yet.
For now… I’ll offer a brief overview.
The general layout/approach is simple.
Comments: verse by verse comments on the text. This is not a technical or devotional commentary; it’s somewhere in the middle. The footnotes will offer sources for further investigation for someone interested in deeper, technical study. I attempted to interact with good scholarship, address technical matters, and the handle Greek without drowning the reader in any of it. The scholar might be relieved by the lack of footnotes and technical discussion, while the non-scholar might be challenged by the abundance of footnotes and technical discussion.
Excursuses: Since this is intended to help the people in the pew. These will address questions one might get in an adult Bible class—maybe offer some pointers for a Bible class teacher.
Applications: Bible study, reading, and reflection must become Bible living.
3 questions that influenced the approach: (1) What will help the people in the pew? (2) What will help the younger preacher? (3) What will help the Bible class teacher prepare?
Expected page count: 130-160.
I’m excited to share this with you. More coming soon…
